Portfolio > Refrigerators(Vanitas) (2020-2023)

This diptych was conceived of as a bright and starchy counterpoint to the darker paintings in the series. The diptych format emerged from the compositional difficulty of viewing both halves of the fridge at once. There are symbols of early still life in the momentarily ripe grapefruit, the bananas that are beginning to turn, and the chrysanthemum, which represents rebirth. Early still life is replete with iconography of life, death, and resurrection. And I'm aiming here to represent it in a modernized form.
